Since its inception, the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) Esports team has been mired in controversy. The team was originally formed to compete in the International Esports Federation (IeSF) World Championships but was later disqualified due to the IeSF's rules stating that only national teams could compete. This sparked a debate within the CIS region over whether or not the team should be allowed to compete, as many felt that the team was not truly representative of the CIS region.
The team was later allowed to compete in the World Cyber Arena (WCA) tournament but was again met with controversy when it was revealed that two of the team's members were not from the CIS region. This led to many calling for the team to be disqualified, but the team ultimately went on to win the tournament.
The controversies surrounding the team have led to many questioning the legitimacy of the CIS region in the world of esports. However, the team has remained popular among fans and continues to compete in tournaments.
